Enescu`s Oedipus

[ Din categoria News ] [ Data articol: 2015-10-14 ] [ Din localitatea New York ] [ Tara SUA ] [ Stiri de la rador.ro ]   RCI New York invites opera lovers, on October 15th, 2015 at 7 pm, at RCI New York Auditorium, to a special event that pays tribute to personality and memory of the great Romanian violinist, composer and conductor George Enescu. The event commemorates the 60th anniversary since his death, and the 10th anniversary of the American premiere of his opera „Oedipusâ€�. The talk „Enescu`s Oedipusâ€� will be presented (in Romanian) by baritone Stefan Ignat from Bucharest National Opera. The audience will learn about the genesis of Enescu`s masterpiece „Oedipusâ€�, its plot and characters, the myth of Oedipus (as opera character), exemplified with audio and video excerpts of key moments of the opera: rituals, folk songs, dances, leitmotifs, monologues. Also baritone Stefan Ignat will present his book „Oedipe. O viziune interpretativaâ€�, recently published in Romania. Romanian Baritone Stefan Ignat and Romanian violinist Sherban Lupu performed, in 2005, the American premiere of Enescu`s “Oedipusâ€� at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The audience will enjoy audio excerpts from this CD, recorded a decade ago, and also video clips from staged productions of this masterpiece. Romanian Baritone Stefan Ignat holds a PhD in music, and is the winner of important awards such as „Ohanesianâ€� Prize, awarded by the Romanian Musical Forum, a Special Award of the Japanese Government, „Actualitatea Muzicalaâ€� Magazine Award (2006) for interpreting Oedipus in four different productions, and many others. Throughout his prodigious career, the artist has been involved in humanitarian and charitable concerts.
